Alvin Quah has an animated, witty and approachable demeanor. Born in Kuala Lumpur with Chinese Malaysian Heritage, Alvin has been passionate about his culture’s food from a young age. His ultimate food dream to make Malaysian cuisine as renowned as is Chinese or Thai.[1]
Season 14[]
Remembered for his funky glasses and delectable drunken chicken, Season 2 favourite Alvin Quah is returning to the famed MasterChef kitchen, determined to charm and cook his way to Finals Week.
Known for his fun and animated approach to cooking, Alvin remains on a mission to increase awareness of Malaysian cuisine. Born in Kuala Lumpur with Chinese Malaysian heritage, he speaks fluent Cantonese and Hokkien, and since a young age has been passionate about his culture’s food. It’s a fascination that today, still fuels his ultimate food dream to make Malaysian cuisine as renowned as Chinese or Thai.
In 1994 Alvin moved from Malaysia to Melbourne, and following his 2010 appearance on MasterChef Australia where he came in sixth place, he became involved with Asian food giant Ayam and Australian Pork as ambassadors. He has hosted cooking shows, cooked in Good Food And Wine shows nationally and internationally, and hosted the TV series Malaysia Kitchen in 2016.
An all-rounder in the kitchen, and convinced his significant sweet tooth means he has a separate stomach for desserts, Alvin says his three favourite ingredients to cook with are chilli, pork and eggplant. Crediting his mum for sparking his love of cooking, Alvin feels confident understanding flavour profiles and cites his go-to quick and easy dish as vegetarian garlic noodles.
Leaving behind his incredible partner Mark and their schnauzer, Remy at their Sydney home, Alvin intends to dedicate the trophy to his beloved mum.[2]

- He is the fourth returning contestant to finish in the same position twice. First being Bank, second being Quest, third being Laura.
