Alvin Schultz was a contestant on Season 2 of MasterChef. He ranked in 15th place.

Personality[]

Alvin was a self-proclaimed "m9aydm" and was respected by most of the other cooks as a strong cook who was very intelligent, especially by Suzy who claimed he’d make it to the Top 5. He had a vast food and ingredient knowledge, along with a technical arsenal used for molecular gastronomy. However, despite having a lot of great ideas for his dishes, he failed to execute them properly, and lacked the knowledge to use complex molecular techniques appropriately, which backfired in his final elimination test when he served a bitter coffee sauce that led to his early elimination.

Upon tasting, his dish was liked by all 3 judges, who each gave him a yes, and Gordon furthermore stating that he felt that he could not have that kind of knowledge and not work in the industry, calling him a “Freak Genius”.

Quotes[]

  • (After being eliminated) "You know, hearing my name called, it sucked. It sort of instant snap back to reality that the dream of being the next MasterChef has ended, but it's been an unbelievable experience and it's something I'll take with me forever, so I thank them for the opportunity and walk back to my station and take my apron off."
