Growing up, Brett says his mum was a simple cook, giving him the best incentive to get into the kitchen. Self-taught through cooking shows, his love for food has been there since childhood.

Born in Nambour near the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Brett is the oldest, followed by his two sisters Bonny and Natalie. At the age of 14, he started working in hospitality making coffee and it is a passion that still drives him today as a boutique coffee roaster in Noosa.

Following high school, Brett was on the move, routinely surfing in the Philippines and travelling through Indonesia.

At 20, he moved to Sydney and worked as a barista in a French café. He stayed for six years before moving to Brisbane and then to Roxbury Downs in South Australia for eight months, before heading to Noosa.

Supported at home by his girlfriend Lauren, Brett says his cooking style could be described as fresh, preferring to utilise lots of fruit and vegetables from a farm co-op near home. A lover of robust Asian flavours and spices, he cites Mexican and Indian as favoured cuisines and nominates Matt Golinski and Kirby Craig as his culinary idols.

When he is not cooking, Brett can be found surfing the waves and keeping active. He is passionate about the notion that what you do for your body you do for your mind and he is conscious to eat fresh and healthy produce whenever he can.

When he leaves the MasterChef Australia kitchen he hopes to create his own cooking school and to create a business traveling to cafes to teach staff how to make the best coffee.[1]
