Christine Silverstein was a contestant on Season 5 of MasterChef. She ranked in 12th place.

Personality[]

Christine was shown to have a no-nonsense personality, but a phenomenal work ethic. Across several Team Challenges and Invention Tests, she was able to excel. In the diner takeover Team Challenge, she captained her team to victory, and was stated by Courtney to be an excellent leader. She was stated by eventual finalists Courtney and Elizabeth to be one of the best cooks of the season, the latter even stating outright that Christine was one of the top five. While her time in the MasterChef kitchen was cut short of Top 10, she still established herself as a strong competitor, winning the surf and turf Invention Test with Victoria, and earning notable praise in both the meatloaf Invention Test as well as the Italian Invention Test.

Christine's audition dish was not shown, but the was one of 17 contestants that received their aprons after the first audition round.

Episode 2[]

Christine wasn't seen much during the Dessert Mystery Box, and she was not called up as part of the Top 2. Later, she was one of the 10 contestants that Courtney did not save, meaning she had to compete in the Meatloaf Pressure Test.

She was the fourth contestant called up, and presented her veal and pork meatloaf, topped with a fried egg and basil fennel pesto sauce. Graham enjoyed the flavor of the meatloaf and how well the pesto went with it, but didn't think the egg was necessary. Her dish was good enough to keep her safe.

The contestants were divided into teams which took up one half of a restaurant each customer would receive two one dollar MasterChef dollars, one blue and one red. Gordon Ramsey chose two chefs who really haven't come out yet to be the team captains. He chose Christine to be the captain of the red team and willie as captain of the blue team. Chef Graham Elliot divided the two teams into boys and girls. Gordon Ramsey added a twist that the captains chose one member of the opposite team to join their team. Willie chose Victoria while Christine chose Christian Green. Christine had a strong leadership which got their team to a quick start. Christine told her team she wants to see every dish before it goes out. Elise Mayfield kept smooshing the bread on the club sandwiches which the customers were complaining and led to slow service. Christine told her to throw them out and they're not coming out of her kitchen. Christine assigned Elizabeth Cauvel to work with Elise on the club sandwiches. Christine was upset that her team was serving raw meat. Her team ended up winning be just 5 dollars.

Episode 10[]

For the Romance Team Challenge, Christine was Ahran's second pick to be part of the red team, as she viewed her as a phenomenal cook who had a great personality and was amazing in team challenges. She was seen working on the risotto for the entrée, and later the tiramisu dessert. The red team lost after earning just 1/4 of the vote, meaning they had to face the pressure test.

Before the pressure test started, Christine revealed it she was scared as it was her first one, and could be going home. Near the end of the challenge, Joe and Graham pointed out that her truffles looked inconsistent and that she was a little behind, but had more in the blast chiller. Courtney told Christine her truffles looked good as she was decorating them. Christine was the last contestant to have her truffles tasted, and presented her sea salt dark chocolate, coffee and cinnamon chocolate, and almond crunch truffles. Joe remarked how her truffles were almost round, but she stopped short of it. Both he and Gordon remarked how bitter her truffles were.

Due to the bitter taste of her truffles, Christine was sent to the Bottom 2, along with Leslie. Ramsay remarked how her box of truffles looked decent but tasted inadequate, while Leslie's looked a mess but tasted decent. She was soon eliminated for serving bitter truffles that looked better than they tasted, and the judges told her they were as shocked as she was. When asked who she thought would win, she answered "My girl Ahran". She received a montage of her time in the competition, as she stated how disappointed and frustrated she was with herself, but was grateful to have cooked for the judges and hoped to use the knowledge she gained to enter the culinary world.
