Christopher Lu was a contestant on Season 6 of MasterChef. He ranked in 10th place.

Personality

Christopher was initially shown to be jumpy and defensive to criticism, and was a self-proclaimed perfectionist. He had a big mouth and a big ego, often talking over the judges who were giving him advice, and was prone to making frequent gestures, interruptions, and speech pauses out of nowhere when he was nervous. Despite this, after being praised by Ramsay for his cooking and great sense of humor, he managed to pull his act together for a while and become a strong cook until losing his consistency midway into the competition. During this phase, he returned to his egotistical ways and was shown to be quite disrespectful, as he purposely provoked Christina when the latter threatened him with on-the-spot elimination, and was eliminated shortly after his inconsistencies got the best of him. He got along with Hetal, but had a rivalry with Derrick and was disliked by Stephen, as the latter often got annoyed for his talkative nature. He also did not appreciate Shelly's cutthroat attitude, believing she deserved to be eliminated in the steak pressure test.

Episode 2

Christopher competed against Shelly in the chicken battle for an apron. Although Gordon disliked his dish, he managed to impress both Christina and Graham with his dish. Christina picked Christopher to receive the apron, whereas Gordon chose Shelly forcing Graham to break the tie. Christopher admitted that although he made mistakes he assured Graham that he would do his very best if he received the apron and he was there to achieve the American dream as well. Graham decided that Christopher’s dish was the better of the two and Christopher received the apron.

Episode 3

Christopher did not receive an apple from Dan and was forced to compete in the elimination challenge. When presenting his apple pie he made some snide comments and gave off an attitude. Gordon informed him that he shouldn’t let others bother him and to develop a thick skin. His pie received praise from the judges and that he is funny and charming but needs to loosen up. In the end, Christopher was declared the winner of the first elimination challenge.

• After his appearance, he started to work at Freddy Small's Bar and Kitchen in LA and is now a private chef. He also has two daughters.

• He is the fourth contestant to be threatened with on-the-spot elimination, following Christian (Season 2), Leslie and Cutter (both from Season 5).

• (Before the fruit tart pressure test) "The Blue Team, they weren't in our kitchen. They don't know who really deserves it, so I think the Blue Team could go one of three ways. They could choose someone who's weaker so that they could possibly eliminate them later on. Someone who's strong, because in the event we have more team challenges, you're going to want a strong cook on your side. Or someone who has an emotional bond with them all. It's a toss-up."
• (Before the judging of the fruit tart pressure test) "This pressure test was one of the hardest things I've done in my life. It doesn't matter how good you are. When it comes time for a pressure test, everything you think you know, you're wrong."
• (After his gnocchi dish was judged) "I'm really angry at myself that I didn't perform better. And I just wish things went differently."
• (After being eliminated) "You know, after the tasting, I'm feeling just a little disappointed and I would've liked to move further, but very proud of myself for making it as far as I did. So I came in here inspiring to becoming a restaurateur. My culinary knowledge has definitely grown, my new found appreciation for cooking, there's some highs and lows; I never really believed in myself, but I'm leaving here as a pretty good home cook. Top 10."
