Working as a nurse in one of Melbourne’s busiest hospitals, Eliza spends her days monitoring and caring for patients coming out of surgery. But at night she dreams of food, cooking dinner parties for friends and thinking about recipes.
Inspired by a range of chefs and home cooks including Tamsin Carvan, Scott Pickett, Guy Grossi and Adrian Richardson, Eliza says her biggest food hero remains her Grandma Jo Jo. Grandma Jo Jo mentored Eliza and would let the then 10-year-old stir the gravy and whip cream for desserts.
After graduating from high school, Eliza commenced a degree in Marketing and Management but decided the path was not for her and took a year off to travel. Backpacking across Europe, she worked as a nanny in the south of France and Italy, citing the incredible food on offer as a highlight of her travels.
Returning home, Eliza began her degree in nursing before starting work at Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital as a theatre nurse.
Always one to give everything a go, Eliza beams with an optimistic spirit and contagious laugh and describes her style in the kitchen as modern and well-rounded, confident with both sweet and savoury.
Together with boyfriend Alex for three years, the pair bought their first home in Melbourne’s north in 2015 and Eliza routinely hosts dinner parties for friends and caters family functions.
Setting her sights on a future in food, Eliza hopes to one day shift her MasterChef Australia experience into a small boutique food store and deli, selling cheese, meats and preserves with homemade meals for lunches and dinners. She says she would also love to work at weddings, creating lavish and beautiful grazing platters for guests.[1]
