Happy Birthday MasterChef is the eighth episode of Season 6 of MasterChef. It was aired on July 1, 2015 on FOX. On that episode, a VIP party was held to celebrate the 100th episode, one team made an unlikely comeback, birthday cake was the main dish, and two early favorites were sent home.
Team Challenge[]
The Top 14 are seen entering into Rancho Palos Verdes, California to face their next team challenge. The Judges then explain that the Top 14 would cook for the all the 100 guests of this special occasion; which just so happens to be the celebration of the 100th Episode of MasterChef. The Judges then explain that the guests consist of the following:
- Chefs
- Food Critics
- Restaurateurs
- Former Contestants
Like the last 2 team challenges, the top 14 would be split into 2 teams. As Nick & Olivia were the winners of the previous challenge, they were then assigned as Team Captains. Nick chooses Claudia, Stephen, Shelly, Sara, Amanda, & Charlie for the Blue Team; whereas Olivia chooses Derrick, Katrina, Hetal, Tommy, Christopher, & Kerry.
Both Teams were assigned to Prep & serve the Following Menu:
- Oysters with Caviar for the Appetizer Course
- Duck Breast for the Entrée Course
After the Challenge, it is revealed that the winners of the challenge will be revealed back at the MasterChef Kitchen.
Pressure Test[]
The Following day it was revealed that the Red Team won the challenge and that The Blue Team was to participate in this pressure test. As the Red team went up into the Balcony, the Blue Team remained below in their black aprons. However, the judges then tasked the blue team to come to a consensus on which member they would save from Elimination; to which after a brief confrontation between Nick & Shelly, the Blue Team unanimously selects Stephen to be exempt from participating the pressure test, leaving Claudia, Nick, Shelly (much to her annoyance and frustration), Sara, Amanda, and Charlie to participate. The 6 were tasked to make a Birthday Cake with a minimum of 3 layers. After the test, Claudia had the best out of the 6 so she was saved first, then Nick followed by Sara, leaving Shelly, Amanda and Charlie in the bottom 3 much to everyone's surprise. Amanda along with Charlie in the end were both eliminated because of a simple mistake of taking the cake out of the oven to early, resulting in it coming out raw as well as a clumsy presentation despite it tasting delicious respectively.
