OH MY GOSH!!!

A MasterChef Wedding is the fourth episode of Season 7 of MasterChef. It was aired on June 22, 2016 on FOX. In that episode, the Top 18 catered for a former contestant's wedding, a power struggle in one team occurred, one cook proved to be very clueless in the kitchen, and someone was eliminated with no Pressure Test.

Team Challenge[]

The top 18 contestants are faced with their first Team Challenge. Each of the two teams must serve their own unique version of a Scallop Appetizer and a Rack of Lamb Entrée for the guests at Season 6 contestant Nick Nappi's wedding with his Fiancée Jenelle. As Nathan and Terry were the winners of the previous challenge, they were assigned as team captains. The cooks were given to choose whose team they want to be with and were split into teams of nine. The Red Team consisted of Brandi, David, Tanorria, Eric, Terry, Diamond, Diana, Manny and Lisa-Ann while the Blue Team consisted of Shaun, Dan, Katie, Nathan, Andrea, Alejandro, D'Andre, Brittany and Barbara (as Shaun, Alejandro, and D'Andre initially ran towards Terry only for him to eject them as a way to even out the teams and to avoid containing too many strong personalities).

During the challenge, Nathan's poor leadership and organization skills caused the Blue team to fall behind in preparation. The red team are making pan seared scallops with asparagus and lemon Beurre blanc, and a roasted rack of lamb with polenta and tomato Gastrique. While the blue team are serving pan seared scallops with blood orange vinaigrette, and a pan seared rack of lamb with gremolada and orzo rice. Tensions started to rise between Shaun and Nathan as Nathan felt that Shaun was trying to take his position as team captain by talking over him, but Shaun thought he was taking the dictatorship role by not listening to what the others had to say. Meanwhile, the Red team also experienced difficulties in preparation as they had to briefly deal with a turbulent wind that was coming in their direction, causing some plates to fall to the ground and break; which Gordon then improvised by removing the table cloths. When Gordon checked on the Blue team before the guests sat down at the reception area, he discovered that the blood orange vinaigrette was coming out too watery and the scallops were coming out raw; much to Nathan's frustration and fear. Shaun is then forced to step in to assure that the scallops are cooked properly. As the guests sat down, the Red team began to run into another problem with the Lamb also coming out raw, resulting in Terry quickly stepping in to make sure that Manny was cooking the Lamb properly. As service went on, Gordon discovered that the Blue's team's orzo rice was burnt from the bottom. As such, D'Andre offers to make another batch only for Shaun to decline as there wasn't enough time; instead opting to place lemon all over the orzo rice to make it look presentable. On the other hand, the Red team had recovered from the earlier hassle, while the reviews from guests seemed pretty even for both teams. When all the guests were fed, Jenelle walked up to the center of the reception room carrying 2 bouquets, 1 red and 1 blue. She then tosses the red one which Manny was able to catch and run around with to celebrate the red teams victory.

Discussion[]

Afterwards, The Blue Team were then tasked to clear down both kitchens and were informed by the judges that there would be no pressure test, and that they would all instead, have to face immediate elimination. However, the judges also decided to save 4 contestants from blue team who they thought contributed the most to the team dynamic; to which they chose Shaun, Katie, Nathan, & Alejandro, much to their reliefs.

Elimination[]

The Following Day, the Red Team heads straight up to the balcony along with Shaun, Katie, Nathan, and Alejandro whereas the remainder of the Blue Team remain below with their black aprons. After some brief deliberation, the judges decided to save Dan, Andrea, and Brittany from elimination as well, leaving D'Andre and Barbara in the bottom 2. Ultimately it was then decided for Barbara to be sent home much to D'Andre's relief. This marks the 1st time in MasterChef History where a home cook was eliminated as a result of being on the losing team, without facing a pressure test.
