The Finale, Part 2 is the 23rd episode of the 9th season of MasterChef. It was aired on September 19, 2018. It is also a double feature along with the 22nd Episode. In that episode, Gerron, Ashley, and Cesar continue to face off in the finale & cooking their three-course meal for the judges; with one of them being crowned as winner.

Plot[]

Entrée Course[]

Ashley's Entrée was a Pan Seared Guinea Hen with Black Eyed Peas, Collard Green Ragout, and a quince cognac sauce. The dish was instantly praised by Gordon for the Guinea Hen being cooked to perfection; with Joe & Aaron further praising her for showcasing all the other components that match well with the Guinea Hen itself.

Cesar's entrée was a spiced Pan Seared duck breast with Charcoal Roasted Vegetables, and Almond Mole. His Dish was questioned by both Joe & Aaron over the notion of having the Mole be the star instead of the Duck Breast; the latter of which would turn out to be overcooked. Despite this, the Mole was praised by all 3 judges.

Gerron's Entrée was Carabinero Prawns with Heirloom Grits, Shellfish Au Jus and Crispy Shallots. The dish was unanimously praised by all 3 judges for having the Shrimp and Gritts Elevated; although Joe continues to question whether or not Gerron can branch out of his comfort zone within his Southern Roots.

Desert Course[]

Gerron's dessert was a Amaretto Chess Pie with Raspberry Coulis and popped Sorghum. Aaron instantly praised the dish for being well balanced, despite the messy presentation as a result of the Raspberry Coulis. Joe on the other hand decided to give him a hug and admits that he was wrong about questioning Gerron's decision to stick with his southern roots.

Cesar's Dessert was a Flowerless Chocolate Cake with Tamarind Caramel, and Spicy Pepita Brittle; which was also well received by the judges, with the Tamarind Caramel being the main highlight.

Finally, Ashley's Dessert was a Orange Genoise with Smoked Chocolate Ganache, and Glazed Cherries. All 3 Judges have unanimously praised this dessert as well.

Choosing the Winner[]

Choosing the Winner this time around was especially challenging for all 3 judges as Gerron's, Ashley's and Cesar's 3 course dinners had some ups and downs that easily counter one another, making this a toss-up for either finalist to win.

However, the judges decided that shouldn't be done and they ultimately decided that Gerron's dishes were better, and he was declared the winner of the competition.
