Mentors are based on regular judges who are focusing individually on selecting home cooks who have the potential to become the next MasterChef. It was exclusively shown on Season 9 as an internal battle between the three judges, but is now discontinued due to the season being heavily disliked and criticized for the judges doing very little to almost no actual teaching to the amateur home cooks, aside from reiterating to the contestants (their "mentees") that they have their aprons with the judges initials on their pin, and not to let them down. This gameplay would appear internationally like Spain, Croatia, Greece, & Singapore.

Season 9 (U.S.)[]
In MasterChef Season 9, this season had been different. The 3 judges would give an apron to someone but with the judges names on it and they would mentor them through out the season. Each judge mentored 8 contestants.
