Growing up with her Hakka mother and grandmother, Sharmaine has always had a love for food. With only two years of experience in the kitchen, Sharmaine may be a newcomer, but her unique background and approach to cooking sets her apart from the rest.
As a tribute to her heritage, she held a private home dining event where she taught people about Hakka food as part of her university thesis, igniting her passion for teaching others how to cook. Sharmaine is also a passionate community volunteer who has taught baking to low-income women, and her ultimate food dream is to create a baking social enterprise that serves underprivileged aunties and uncles who want to re-enter the workforce.
Outside of the kitchen, Sharmaine is a sporty and adventurous individual who enjoys anything outdoors. She is also an accomplished pianist and painter, and her kind-hearted nature and reserved personality make her a true "girl next door."
Sharmaine's goal is to empower the less fortunate with skills to become self-sufficient, and she hopes to use her platform on MasterChef to spread her message of positivity and social change.[1]
