Tyler Viars was a contestant on Season 5 of MasterChef. He ranked in 16th place.

Personality

Tyler was a sweet but overall invisible contestant. He was a good team player, but could be foolish at times, such as eating food that was supposed to be served to the customers. While a decent cook, he committed a fatal error by accidentally taking a dessert belonging to Jaimee Vitolo from the blast chiller and presenting it as his own. Although the judges believed he had made an honest mistake, Tyler was eliminated on the spot. He accepted the decision gracefully.

Season 5

Episode 2

Tyler was not seen much during the Dessert Mystery Box, and was not called up as part of the Top or Bottom 2. He was one of 10 contestants not saved by Courtney, and was forced to compete in the Meatloaf Elimination Challenge. Although his dish was not shown, he remained safe.

Episode 6

Tyler's run on MasterChef was ultimately cut short in this episode when he accidentally served Jaimee Vitolo's panna-cotta to the judges instead of his ramekins, thus breaking one of the cardinal rules of the competition and he was disqualified as a result. He later apologised to Jaimee for this mistake and gracefully accepted his disqualification, becoming the first ever contestant to be eliminated due to a technicality in MasterChef history.

• After his appearance, Tyler is a Land Specialist at Whitetail Properties, launched his Cookin' in Camo brand and became a body builder and power lifter.

  Tyler: I had no clue, I apologize.
  Gordon: For the Records, I 100% believe you.
• "Again, I apologize on what happened. I understand your decision and I appreciate everything you guys have allowed me to do."
• Tyler: "Jaimee, I apologize. I'm sorry, I have no intent of doing that."
  Jaimee: "No, I'm sorry that you grabbed mine."
  Tyler: "And, hey, at least if they would have tasted it, it would have tasted pretty damn good! So thank you!"
• (After being disqualified) "This is devastating, but I feel like the judges made a fair decision. You break the rules, you pay the price; I broke the rules. MasterChef changed my life. Hopefully it leads to better things; My dream hasn't changed. I get knocked down, I get back up. This isn't the end, it's only a detour.
